In Memory

of Peter Jennings

Dear Casey, Lizzie, Christopher, and Sarah,

Some faces become familiar through the years.
Some men and women have the capacity to be real people.
Peter Jennings was one of these memorable faces and people.

He was more than a two-dimensional image reporting the world news.
He was someone who could be counted on to deal with sensitive issues.
He did so even when they bordered on morally and ethically unpopular viewpoints,
all the while maintaining a balance and stability, with insight.

Having been a conscientous objector during the Vietnam war
I have often lived on the borders of the world that most people live in.
It's always comforting to find someone who can lend a balance to life,
with enough integrity to borrow from what is fair and pay what is true.
Peter's balance sheet was honest, covering both sides of an issue.

Having lost both my parents within the last five years,
I know how difficult it is for a family to lose someone they love.
I empathize with your loss, as many millions will also.

I know that the departed remain a part of our lives as we go forward.
We still talk to them, regardless of whether they reply.
We miss them but never forget them, as we carry them with us.
We honor them by emulating their best qualities in our lives.

I wish you strength in your loss,
company in your grieving,
and gratitude for sharing Peter with the entire world.

God Bless you all,

Doug Young
