Received two emails this week. Wrote this at the risk of offending some friends. Yes, yet another one about the Pledge of Allegiance, with a long rendition supposedly written by a "Kid." I would recommend reading a previous page of mine, published in October of 2005, regarding the Pledge, and the Separation of Church and State, right here. I challenge you to find the word God in the ORIGINAL Pledge of Allegiance:
The other email is about receiving thousands of dollars for chain emailing it to others. I never trust these types of emails, and go on the premise, "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't." -- Good luck to all of you, wherever your email address ends up under surveillance. (They are both included at the bottom of this page, if you want to read them.) This is my reply: Another joke forward, huh? Some emails are smokescreens to keep you from seeing what's real. Why worry about the word God and prayer in schools, when... Hell, the whole world's a war zone these days! I just can't figure people out anymore. They
don't make sense! Priorities are all screwed up. So why are these emails being sent around, forwarded? Why are people believing them, falling for them, disseminating them? I'm sorry, but I believe it's because the current federal administration, aka King George, has succeeded at brainwashing a large portion of the nation. Poisoning is not too strong a word, either. (The Arabs have Jihad, and we have Bushad!) The BushAd ministration wants us to focus on things like using the word God, The Pledge, Bible study in schools, and stem cell murders, to the detriment of everything that makes a real difference! Remember the words, "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?" Where did I ever hear those? Perhaps it was 250 years ago, when we were declaring ourselves a sovereign nation, before the media were capable of eroding our reason, feeding us mental garbage about democracy, and Christian values, and family values, and ethnic differences. Perhaps long before we had radios, people were able to think about things more clearly. It would be nice to think that technology broadens man's horizons. In space, perhaps. In speed, definitely. In intelligence, doubtfully. In wisdom, definitely not! Why do I get offended? Because those who aspire/conspire in these campaigns miss the whole point of what Jesus preached, and what the US is capable of standing for, given good leadership, which it currently lacks a hundred fold. That is not fiction. That is a bold, blatant, irrefutable factual reality! There is too wide a discrepancy between the words and the deeds of the leaders of our country and their puppet evangelists, for their words to mean anything anymore. God does not support killing, or brutality, or depriving people of their homes and livelihood, or discrimination against those who are different. Jesus wouldn't support this, and neither does the Bible. I don't think Christians should tolerate such behavior, if they want to call themselves Christians in good faith. Look at the deeds one does, not the words he speaks. Which have more meaning? Which affect others' lives more? Which have lasting impact on the world? As I was saying, I don't understand people anymore, since priorities are amiss. How many died in the towers on 911? How many have died since then, in our War Against Terrorism? What have we accomplished, other than squandering our tax dollars and increasing our national deficit? What did Saddam Hussein have to do with it? How come Osama bin Laden is still free? Have we decreased or increased the Iraqi offensive "insurgents?" Or are they freedom fighters, like our revered Swamp Fox? Have we won yet? Why is Israel destroying Lebanon? How many have died because they claim to want two captured soldiers to be released? Why does Bushad support such senseless warfare? Or can we call it genocidal murder, since it's civilians who are dying? What is the real reason for the offensive? Is it too much to believe that we want to lure Iran and Saudi Arabia into a war? Is it too much to propose that we have our eyes on their oil, wanting to take it, rather than buy it? Or is it just impossible for people with different religious beliefs to live together? I hope not! It's a war we'll never win! If the Arabs ever kidnap me, please tell all the world governments to just let them have me, rather than killing even one person, taking even one life, to get me back. It's not worth it. I believe in the teachings of Jesus, so I suppose I am a Christian of sorts. I live on earth and believe in humanity's potential, so I guess I'm also a Buddhist, Moslem, Hindu, and Jew. We need to learn to live together, or... well, we just won't make it. Spock from Star Trek had an often spoken truism: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one, or the few." Not a bad philosphy. Can we do it? To be honest, I have my doubts. Humans are far too territorial, and far too adolescent in spiritual matters, as far as evolution of the species. Until something happens to bring puberty to the human race, we'll continue to live like fictional figments of someone else's fantasy, daydreaming that we can collect water in the folds of fishnets, while blind to the wide variety of fish who are suffocating in the air. They'll die and we'll all starve that way!
